Voices From The Future is
an exploration of the future young people imagine.
The film features some of
the 132 teenagers in The 17s Project, conducted around the world between
February 1998 and August 2001. Creative thinking teacher Lisa Morgan asks
young people to imagine journeying forward in time. They draw and describe
what they see.
We get a surprising insight
into young people's minds. The teens voice their predictions of the future.
Some foresee inventions that become part of everyday life. Others have
apocalyptic visions. Nish's 1999 prediction of urban warfare in Sydney
seems uncannily prescient now. Some describe the world evolving.
What are we to make of Emma's
vision of metallic trees?
Asked to picture her perfect
future, Tiger says her childhood experience of violence affects her ability
to believe in an ideal world. Jiaoqi dreams of 'no war'. Nuch, who earlier
predicted worldwide flooding, tells us of her dream for more trees and
fresh air.
The filmmakers hope these
young voices will stimulate the audience to explore their own visions of
the future and to consider what role imagination - individual or collective
- plays in the world.
Voices From The Future is intended for television broadcast.
